A military patrol convoy was struck by a roadside explosive on the highway near Bundur village, approximately 30 kilometers from the garrison town of Monguno in Borno State, killing five soldiers, according to local sources.

The attack, which targeted troops conducting routine patrols, was confirmed by members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), a local volunteer security group. One CJTF member, who identified himself as Zakariya Adam, provided details to reporters, citing eyewitness accounts of the blast.

The incident underscores the ongoing security challenges in northeastern Nigeria, where the military has been battling insurgent groups for over a decade.

Highway attacks and ambushes have become increasingly frequent in the region, often resulting in casualties among both military personnel and civilians.

Nigerian authorities have yet to release an official statement regarding the attack.

Analysts warn that such incidents highlight the persistent threat insurgents pose to both military operations and civilian mobility across Borno State.
